Three N scale track plans you can open and edit

Start with a small KATO UNITRACK oval, an open-ended passing station or a shelf terminal. Compare track quantities and planning dimensions, then edit the plan online.

Before opening a plan

  1. Save any existing planner draft as JSON. Each link opens a new planner tab and loads the example instead of the saved draft; later edits may update the shared browser autosave.
  2. Read the beta warning, then zoom out or pan to see the whole plan. Share links load track only, not the board or scenery.
  3. Set the proposed board dimensions and check the exact train’s manual before changing track. Dry-fit before buying the full list or fixing scenery.

Small oval: continuous running with one train

A starting point for joining track, adding power and testing slow running. R249 is this plan’s radius, not a promise that every train will run on it.

Digital centerline diagram. Not a construction drawing.
Centerline extent
746.0 × 498.0 mm
Planning board
900 × 650 mm
Track pieces

There is no passing siding or isolated parking track. Check the exact train’s minimum radius and body overhang first.

Track quantities — individual pieces, not retail packs
PartDescriptionQuantity
20-000Straight 248mm2
20-100Curve R249-45°8

Track only: feeders, power pack, turnout controls, insulated joiners, bumpers, structures and platforms are not included. Decide on wiring and protection separately.

Passing station: an open-ended siding exercise

Two #6 turnouts form a passing siding, with approach tracks at each end. This is a station section, not a complete continuous-running layout.

Digital centerline diagram. Not a construction drawing.
Centerline extent
2851.3 × 65.5 mm
Planning board
3000 × 300 mm

Nominal dimensions leave about 0.7 mm of total mismatch at the exit. The digital model splits it between two joints. Dry-fit the actual track; screen connections are not a purchasing guarantee.

Shelf terminal: back-and-forth operation

One #6 turnout leads to a spur for stopping and reversing movements. The ends remain open and offer no protection against a train running off the edge.

Planning board

There is no runaround track, so a locomotive cannot change ends around its train. Add suitable stops, edge protection and wiring before operating a real model.

Sources and checks

KATO sources confirm the named track sizes and part numbers; they do not certify our three examples. ROKHELM’s automated checks compare the generated diagrams, quantities and encoded plans. Bounds describe track centerlines only. The passing example retains the planner’s nominal-dimension approximation.
